Our Mission

NorwalkReads! seeks to provide the opportunity and encouragement to read through the distribution of books and by supporting literacy programs to all children in Norwalk with a focus on those at risk.

Our Activities

FREE BOOK DISTRIBUTIONS

Each year NorwalkReads! holds two city-wide book distributions for children at various sites -- the East Norwalk Library, the Norwalk Public Library, the Rowayton Library, the Norwalk Housing Authority, and other venues -- in the Spring and Fall; and at the Stepping Stones Museum in the Winter.

Special "individual venue" Book Distributions are held periodically, as called for.

The book distributions enable children to receive at least 2 new and 2 slightly used books from thousands of titles which are either purchased by NorwalkReads! or have been contributed from various sources.

The children are encouraged to read the books they choose and return their “I’ve Reads. These Books Passport” at the next distribution where they receive prizes for their effort.

Dates, times, places of the Book Distributions are widely publicized through the local media, school flyers, emails, and posters placed within the weeks preceding the events.
